Mirin is a sweet cooking wine widely used in Japanese cuisine in particular. It is a rice wine, similar to Saké, but contains much more sugar, giving your dish a nice sweet and syrupy sauce. During cooking, the alcohol evaporates and only the pronounced sweet taste remains. So it really is a condiment and not meant to be drunk as is. Well-known dishes in which Mirin is used include Teriyaki, Pokébowls & Ramen bowls. It is a delicious seasoning for many meat and fish dishes.
