This traditional mortar is especially common in Thailand and Laos. Made of clay, this mortar has a wooden pestle. The big advantage of this mortar is that it is about 12 cm deep. You can use this mortar for grinding herbs and pasta, but its depth also makes it ideal for making a traditional papaya salad, for example. The salad can then simply be added after the spices have been crushed so you can mix the salad in the mortar.Note: The colour may vary slightly from the picture for each mortar.These are handmade and are therefore often a mixture of red/terracota colour and dark brown.
